EXPOSURE LEVELS IN POLISHED CONCRETE

Exposure levels in polished concrete refers to the amount of aggregate that can be seen once the polishing is finished. Remember, aggregate is the tiny stones or granules that make up part of the concrete mix. The level of exposure is dependent on how well the concrete was installed, what kind of finish it was given, and if any existing flooring system (I.E. carpet, tile, epoxy, etc) was previously installed on the concrete floor. If you are able to add an exposure after contacting Premier Polishing, you have the ability to choose from the following:

Cream

This exposure in concrete means it has been processed the least. The Floor has been honed, not ground, leaving the floor mainly unchanged before the polishing process takes place.

Salt and Pepper

This process is only grinding off the top layer of concrete, the swirly marks of Cream, leaving only the top of the aggregate to be exposed, leaving what looks like “Salt and Pepper” flakes in the floor. Floors can be made can be light with cream left in the floor, or heavy with bigger “Salt and Pepper” flakes.

Full Exposure

Full exposure involves grinding the concrete to achieve the maximum amount of aggregate exposure. Aggregate is more easily polished and able to retain a high gloss finish. Thus, the more aggregate that is exposed, the more beautiful your polished concrete flooring will be.

Random Exposure

Can entail any of the three previous exposures. Normally chosen due to a previous floor needing to be ground off, resulting in an unknown variance in the exposure of the floor.

 *DISCLAIMER*

If there was previous flooring such as tile or carpet on top of the concrete, we will not be able to control the amount of aggregate exposed as our goal is to remove the mastic, glue, epoxy, etc on top of the floor. Curious about what we can remove? View our Concrete Surface Preparation Page!
